Calling all RUNNERS : RAT RACE : A RACE AGAINST HUMAN TRAFFICKING

I was invited last friday, March 11, 20 11 at MARIO's KITCHEN for the Coffee Talk of RAT RACE , A RUN AGAINST HUMAN TRAFFICKING.

This run is different from the other running events because this evnt has ven sharing . The event organizers agreed to donate 50% of the proceeds to the VISAYAN FORUM which is against Human TRAFFICKING. At the event we informed also the rampant problem of Human trafficking all over the world most especially we were among the countries all over the world with the most sources coming from us. A lot of women and children from the deprived provinces here in the Philippines are the most viable targets/victims.It is just sad fact that most of our women and childrem are already exposed to this. Thanks to ZONTA CLUB OF MAKATI-AYALA to have been advocating and helping and organizing these kind of runs to support the war against HUMAN TRAFFICKING.

FACTS about Human Trafficking (courtesy of The BODY SHOP
Human trafficking is the third largest criminal industry in the world(1) and it is thought that 1.2 million children and young people are trafficked every year for sexual exploitation and cheap labour(2).

Philippine Trafficking facts

- In the Philippines, 60,000 to 100,000 children are trafficked annually (through both cross-border & internal trafficking), and most of these girls are to be sexually exploited.

- The Philippines also ranks fourth in the world in terms of countries with the highest number of prostituted children.

 - Reports show that sexual exploitation is the most likely purpose of trafficking

-Profits from this horrific trade reach US$ 27.8 billion per year.

-The recent economic crisis has increased children and young people's vulnerability to trafficking and the numbers are on increase.

What a sad fate for our fellow Filipinas and children, As a Mom of 2 boys though I dont have a daughter, I really feel for those women and child victims..and what great way to show your support is joning the above Run ; RAT RACE: RUN AGAINST TRAFFICKING . Most runs for your info does not really share half of it's profits to their chosen donors..but this with RAT RACE you are all assured that half of its profits will go to VISAYAN FORUM FOUNDATION.

Visayan Forum Foundation, Inc. (VF) is a Philippine-based NGO established in 1991 known for its innovative work for empowerment of vulnerable migrants especially victims of human trafficking, domestic servitude and other forms of exploitation through building social movements, advocating for policies and delivering of services.
VF is recognized for its pioneering efforts in advocating the recognition, development and full legal protection of domestic workers in the Philippines. It has helped organize the Samahan at Ugnayan ng mga Manggagawang Pantahanan sa Pilipinas (SUMAPI), a national organization of domestic workers. VFFI, along with SUMAPI and its local and international partners, has been lobbying for the passage of the Batas Kasambahay (Domestic Worker’s Bill) in order to uplift the situation of our local domestic workers by ensuring their well-being and protection.
