The Philippine National Figure Skating Championships Slated November 24-25, 2012

Nothing beats the ice but only the country's best and brightest in the field of figure skating. Figure skating in the country has been one of the sports that brought the Philippine team in the spotlight of success. The future of our country in the sport of Skating made a successful mark when our very own Filipino pride Michael Martinez was ranked WORLD Number 10 by International Skating Union.

So in line with these, The Philippine National Figure Skating Championships will be held at The SM International Ice Skating Rink at SM Mall of Asia from November 24-25, 2012.

It is overwhelmingly participated by 44 competitors from various divisions, 11 of which are from the USA and Switzerland as well as the recently ranked Michael Martinez.

The Philippine National Figure Skating Championships is highly regarded as the most notable event in the Philippine competitive figure skating tournaments, This competition is open for amateur and professional skaters, open for Filipino skaters, skaters with dual citizenship or long time residents.
The winners from this competition will be ones who be sent to compete in the international figure skating stilts like World Figure Skating Championships, World Junior Figure Ice Skating Championships, Four Continents and the Winter Olympics.
This upcoming competition was presented through a presscon which was held atIMAX Theatre 2nd floor SM Mall of Asia.

One thing I’ve noticed is that there are a lot of Filipino skaters who are dual citizenships holders who are joining this year’s competition. From what I’ve research, these Filipinos chose to compete here in the Philippines because there are more opportunities here in our country, And there are more chances that they’ll be given a spot (given if they won in this competition) to represent our country to other international figure skating competitions.

Our country is a tropical one, given that we don’t have snow or ice here, still the sport is growing. Well the parents of the aspiring skaters are the ones we should thank first because they are primarily the ones who support the sport most specially, when it comes to finances. A skater has to, of course pay their coaches. According to one of the parents I’ve got to talk with, money is just one of the many investments they have to do in order to support their skaters. Time and a lot of practice are also one of the many things their children has to endure just to follow their love and passion for the sport.

I'm sure fans and families most especially the fans of this sport will truly be amazed on this 2-day sports spectacle.

(WEEK 2) The 3rd Philippine International Pyromusical Competition 2012: UNITED KINGDOM vs SPAIN

Yesterday I was present again at the week 2 presentation of the Philippine International Pyromusical Competition 2012 at SM MALL of ASIA. and this time the competing countries are United Kingdom and Spain. As usual, SM MALL of ASIA was again flocked by an enormous number of audience to watch this spectacle of music combined with the best pyrotechnics of other countries.

This competition never failed to amaze. It was also an effort for me to go to SM MALL of ASIA, but with the awesome effort that the competing countries, I must say it was worth it.

WEEK 2 Competitors:

UNITED KINGDOM (SM ART PYROTECHNICS LTD.)

-is an international fireworks display company with offices in the U.K and Australia. They provide all types of pyrotechnic display design, installation, delivery and consultancy services around the world. Their shows are delivered using the latest computer technology from FireOne in the USA and supported by design and visualization software using the Showism 3D simulation package.

SPAIN
Their effects are great only up to the middle, hope they extended it till the end.

SPAIN ( TURIS FIREWORKS INC )

-it won the Championship title in the 2009-2010 Global fest Fireworks Competition held in Calgary, Canada.
Despite the youth of their fireworks company, which was formed in 1984, it has established value to its stage name Pyrotechnics Turis. now almost all of Spain and the rest of the world acknowledge them for their phenomenal fireworks display.

As the competition moves on its 3rd week, more special effects are seen, I'm so excited to see what's up for the competitors for the 3rd week of competitions.

What's New ?: THE NIDO SCIENCE DISCOVERY CENTER Presents 2012: The Universe Survives.

Last year we were bombarded with an alarming news that world will end in 2012. But is it really true? What are the facts ? Does the things we knew about it enough to calm us down? But hey it’s already 2012! Why don’t we visit The NIDO SCIENCE DISCOVERY CENTER and learn altogether what it is with the supposedly apocalypse? And let’s hear and see what Physics and Astrophysics have to say about the end of the world.

The NIDO SCIENCE DISCOVERY SCIENCE together with PHILIPPINE ASTRONOMICAL SOCIETY presents NATIONAL ASTRONOMY WEEK- 2012: THE UNIVERSE SURVIVES
International guest speakers like Dr. Reinabelle Reyes (University of Chicago),Mr.George Martin (International Planetarium Society) are just some of the speakers invited for the upcoming ASTRONOMY COVENTION SEMINAR to be held at The Nido Science Discovery Center.

I’ve been here the past year with my kids, with a purpose to have them learn more about the world around us. For me it is really but beneficial that we as parents encourage our kids to be more curious on what’s happening in the world around us. We are the first ones who should be eager so as to encourage them more and have them aware of what’s happening with world. So after the launch I will schedule to have a visit here again at The NIDO SCIENCE DISCOVERY CENTER with my kids because this is another learning experience they haven’t discover yet.

So to let you guys in on what the International Speakers will conduct in these series of Symposia, here are some of the facts that they’ll discuss:

In some quarters, 2012 evokes a harrowing vision of the end of the world. Speculations grounded on religious and similar perspectives have a long provenance. Part of the symposium will focus on what Physics and AstroPhysics have to say about the end of the world as we know it.

Only Planets Mercury and Venus can pass between the Earth and the Sun. These events are called TRANSITS, during which we see these planets appearing as circular black dots appear to slowly move across the Sun’s face. Although Transits of mercury happen about 13 times each century, transits of Venus are rare. They occur in pairs separated by 8 years, following thereafter the next pairs occurs more than a century later.

On June 6 this year, Venus transits the Sun for the last time until the year 2117. In the past, the transits were very important , as they were used to calculate the distance between the Earth and the Sun. Today, we have no need of this method. However, the rarity of these events and the colorful history of their observation capture public attention.

The Speakers:

Dr. Reinabelle Reyes will tackle “The Birth and Death of the Milky Way. She will tell and use the latest cosmological simulations to tell the story of how galaxies in the Universe have formed over the last ten billion years and how our own Milky Way galaxy will meet its end a “mere” 3 billion years from now.

Mr. George Martin
He will discuss an out-of-the-world topic- “A little Black Dot: The Transit of Venus”.
Reading this information excites me because all along we knew everything there is to know about our dear planet and how the other affects its existence. Though my kids will be too young comprehend all these, I still think it will contribute a lot in terms of knowledge, who knows later on their education , they will somehow use these knowledge.

Don’t forget to visit The Nido Science Discovery Center located at G/F Southside Entertainment Hall, SM MALL of ASIA, Pasay City. Call 5562193 for more information.

SEMINAR SCHEDULES are as follows:

February 18, 2012 – 4:30pm-830pm Symposium / 9:00pm-10:30pm Star Gazing
February 24, 2012 – 6:00-8:30pm Symposium / 9-10pm Star gazing

SM Mall of Asia launches the Biggest Ferris wheel in The Philippines

Last December 16,2011, the back of SM MAll of Asia is packed. No, they are not just waiting for the fireworks display. This time shoppers are in for a much way bigger treat!  Families and shoppers alike will have their grand time shopping and trying the new ride/ attraction here at SM Mall of Asia.

Dubbed as the SM MOA EYE, the tallest and biggest Ferris wheel in the Philipines. It is the newest prestige landmark which Filipinos and foreign visitors will be excited to see.

The idea of the SM MOA EYE is after the famous LONDON EYE of England and Singapore Flyer of Singapore.

The gondolas of this ride are all air-conditioned and no need to worry of getting wet if it suddenly rains because it fully-covered.

And I know when it comes to rides, safety is one of our major concerns. But we are  assured by SM PRIME HOLDINGS and S&T Leisure Worldwide Inc, Pacific Leisure Group (Philippine Entity) that this is one of security measures that they are into.

The addition of SM MOA EYE ferris wheel will be an added attraction along with the other attractions with SM AMUSEMENT PARK at the back of SM MALL of ASIA.

What are we waiting, be the first ones to ride the SM MOA EYE. You may see the photos of how exciting the MOA EYE here.

SM Mall of Asia Bowling Center: Awards it’s 10th Bowling Tournament Winners

Do you know how to play bowling? Well if it’s just playing bowling in the arcade centers, then I would definitely say “Yes”! But that was one sport I am willing to learn more of. And I guess one of the better venues to harness my “bowling” skills is to visit the nearest SM BOWLING CENTER.
The SM BOWLING CENTER, after eleven years of catering to “bowling” enthusiasts, may it be a pro or non-pro player, is still continuing to give million worth of prizes thru Bowling tournaments. Just like yesterday’s culminating and awarding of winners to its 10th Bowling Cup Tournament, it gave another CHEVROLET Cruze, which is one of the fastest growing brands in the automobile department, to the Grand Champion.

The Bowling Cup Tournament is open to all ages. Aspirants must bowl three sets of a 4-game series for qualification and be able to play on at least one center finals. The top 40 bowlers per SM BOWLING CENTER, depending the accumulated points earned by each bowler from the qualifying period and center finals, will be the ones competing in the finals.

The awarding last Dec. 4, 2011, gathered 24 qualifiers while it already started around 12nn at SM BOWLING CENTER MOA.

How lucky the winners are  because the the Top3 winners will each get (2nd Runner-up )Php 50, 000, (1st runner-up) gets Php100,000, and the most awaited anouncement of the Grand winner who will  take home a brand new CHEVROLET CRUZE!
