American Eye Center now has Alcon LenSx Femtosecond Laser Surgery to treat Cataract!

A new treatment for cataracts has just been unveiled by American Eye Center (AEC), which promises to provide patients with the most advanced all-laser cataract procedure---the first of its kind in Asia.

Dubbed the Alcon LenSx Femtosecond laser surgery, this new equipment brings an unprecedented level of safety, speed and precision in treating cataracts, and enhances the host of options for surgical-based methods that AEC offers its clients.

From a surgical perspective, advances in cataract treatment have improved the way ophthalmologists deal with this condition in the past two decades. We have seen how the merger of technology and surgical ingenuity contributed to making cataract surgery the modern-day miracle that it is today. Currently, we can remove the cataract through a very small (2-3mm) incision in the eyeball using fine surgical blades and implant a multifocal intraocular lens (IOL) that restores full functional vision in patients after surgery. This is called “Phacoemulsification”, presently the standard in cataract practice worldwide. Unfortunately, this procedure has often been mistakenly referred to as “laser eye surgery”—which it is NOT. It is more appropriate to call this procedure “small-incision cataract surgery”, “sutureless cataract surgery”, or “no-stitch cataract surgery” for the layman. True laser-assisted cataract surgery has never been available to patients until today—with the introduction of the Alcon LenSx femtosecond laser surgery.

The new Alcon LenSx FemtoSecond laser

The Alcon LenSX Femtosecond laser differs from the traditional methods of cataract surgery by the absence of the blade. By using very short yet intense bursts of near-infrared light, the Alcon LenSX femtosecond laser technology is able to create extremely precise subsurface cuts without manual intervention The blades used to create the small incisions in the eye have been completely replaced by this laser, making the incisions more precise and predictable. In addition, the circular opening that is

One of the veterans who have undergone the procedure during its press launch

created in the human lens in order to access the cataract (called a capsulotomy) which was traditionally performed by human hands has now been replaced by the femtosecond laser, making the capsulotomies more architecturally round and centered. Studies have shown that this is very important in intraocular lens stability and refractive predictability of surgical outcomes (In one study by the American Academy of Ophthalmology, femtosecond laser incisions achieved perfect capsulotomy diameter accuracy in 100 percent of cases). Finally, the actual cataract is also fragmented by the femtosecond laser making it much easier and less traumatic for the surgeon to remove and clean it up prior to placement of the IOL. In short, the femtosecond laser has replaced many of the steps in the cataract surgery that were previously performed by human hands, i.e., resulting in less surgical error and better predictability of outcomes. Results are more precise than any other previous or current methods of cataract surgery.

Dr. Cesar Ramon G. Espiritu, who specializes in Cornea, External Disease treatment at AEC, said that this new technology shows the company’s commitment to provide the best eye care to its patients.

“The Alcon LenSx femtosecond laser surgery is currently the most advanced method for cataract treatment, and we’re proud to be the first in Asia to offer it,” he says. “We want thousands of Filipinos suffering from cataracts to see that treatment is now even faster, much safer, more precise and definitely pain-free.”

Cataract is the leading cause of blindness in the Philippines, with an estimated half a million Filipinos blind or having some degree of visual impairment. This disease, which hits almost everyone due to aging, involves the gradual formation of a cloudy film in the lens of the eye, varying in degree from slight to complete opacity, and obstructing the passage of light.

Espiritu emphasizes that patients must decide their preferred method of surgery together with an expert ophthalmologist. AEC is backed by a team of Associated Eye Specialists, the most experienced and longest-running EyeMD group practice in the country, which comprises 17 doctors with various subspecialties. AEC also boasts a staff of highly qualified optometrists, nurses and counselors to provide patients with personalized quality eye care.

The American Eye Center has been breaking new ground when it comes to ophthalmic care since its establishment in 1995.  Accredited with the Department of Health and the Philippine Health Insurance Corporation, AEC is fully equipped with branches located at the Level 5, EDSA Shangri-La Plaza, and at the Level 4 of Greenbelt 5, Makati City. For inquiries, call 636-0762 or 729-EYES (3937) or visit www.americaneye.com.ph, follow eyetweets in Twitter, and “like our account” in Facebook.

FANSILOG.COM Supports PINOY INDIE MUSIC by Producing ARKO'S 2nd album

Music has always been a universal language. It ties everyone together and unites us. But with the rise of the Internet, the media landscape has definitely changed.

This is also what these four individuals from various fields, thought of when they came up with the newest OPM website FANSILOG.com. Freelance video producer Frank Lloyd Mamaril, together with Robbie Ortega (licensed engineer), Jason Talon (IT Practitioner), and Raul Robles (IT Support Engineer), coming from an all-male choral group themselves, music was really in their system. It didn’t take long when they came up with an idea of an all-filipino website catering to music enthusiasts and fans alike.

Fansilog is an all- Filipino music content website where OPM Artists and fans can log in and exchange. Artists and bands can upload their songs and videos and let their fans know where their next gig will be and at the same time view exclusive content like interviews, music videos bootlegs, and versions.

“Fansilog also produces top-notch and creatively executed music videos” says Frank Lloyd Mamaril, who is also a freelance video producer/director himself and as part of the launch of the website, Fansilog proudly invites artists and bands to submit songs and if Fansilog likes it, then they will produce the music video for free (as of the moment). Fansilog envisions itself as a multimedia hub, where fansilog can produce content for the artists as well. And as a taste of things to come, Fansilog launches its first featured band ARKO.

Scouring and searching, ARKO had been in this mode for a long time. And now the long wait is finally over. The country’s most promising rock band comes with a real powerful rock-inspired voice. ARKO,together with Brian Sta. Ana (Guitars), Ivan Raquid (Bass), Boyet Robleado (Drums) and Nathalie Parayno (Vocals), virtuosos in their own right brought together to produce a “new” kind of music that will never fail music lovers and will surely get a fan out of them. ARKO is this generation’s redefinition of Original Filipino Music, the new epitome of ‘Rock’. A band leaving an awe even to the most insatiable.
ARKO now releases their latest OPM Album, ARKO: Bitter, Sweet and Even. Independently produced and distributed in Astrovision nationwide.14 original tracks that will bring out the rocker in you.

Fansilog produced their first music video “Sayang” It premiered in Fansilog.com for two weeks and in just two days, it had 400 views and growing. Weeks after, the music video also premiered in MYX as part of the show PINOY MYX.

In the coming months, Fansilog will introduce new features like a music playlist, a gig locator, and fan badges, and will continue to look for fresh new content and artists to feature. review about.

And I'll be sure to post my review about the band soon!

For submissions and inquiries, log on to www.fansilog.com or email admin@fansilog.com.

IMPRESSCA: No Guilty Pleasures Only the Best and Healthy Alternative Lifestyle

Do you like veggies and “greens” like lettuce? Me, I love them. Greens for me are my “feel-good” comfort food. Admittedly before I don’t’ eat veggies.  I still remember way back when I was still a kid, whenever mom would cook Pancit or Sinigang, I would make sure I have segregated the vegetables from that dish before you could persuade me to eat it. But as I grew older, I slowly embrace the truth that vegetables are delicious too. And yes I also encourage my kids to eat vegetables. And eventually just like them, I also like eat vegetables along with my favorites dishes.

And lately if I’m not at home or out on an errand, finding a healthy place to eat is hard to find. Yes, there are a lot of good places to dine but adding the fact that for me to consider eating at that place, there should be healthy food to choose from their menu.

And that’s where IMPRESSCA made it easy for me to dine.  Impressca is known to served healthy dishes that are bagful of flavor. They don’t sacrifice taste for profit. Their salads go beyond the boring and usual set-up. Diners like who just like to their salads their  “own” way will be happy to know that IMPRESSCA offers the “ LOAD-ALL-YOU-CAN” SALAD for only Php99. And from what I’ve observed from their menu is that  they don’t serve a bunch but they made sure that all that’s in is healthy.  I am sure you will like their Paninis, Pasta and drinks. But being healthy is not all “greens”, they also serve savory meat dishes  and brown rice dishes.
Wow So GREEN ! I LOVE THE SALAD BAR!

The owner Ms. Elizabeth Echano-Alfane shared that she started IMPRESSCA right before graduating from her entrepreneurial course.  And until now She continues to be inspired by what the late environmentalist, Odette Alcantara has taught her, “LAHAT AY MAGKAKAUGNAY” (everything is interconnected) and the acronym “L-A-H-A-T” (which means Lupa (land), Araw (sun), Hangin (air), Ako (me),Tubig (water).
At IMPRESSCA you get to eat healthy, you also get to help. HOW? Under IMPRESSCA Green Card program, for every Php200 purchase, you support local farmers and contribute one tree seedling in their behalf. That’s great right? You get to eat healthy and help at the same time .That’s hitting 2 birds with one stone.

With IMPRESSCA they not only promote eating greens but they also encourage us to shift to a healthier lifestyle and protect our environment as well. When you dine at IMPRESSCA, you will notice that they don’t use plastic for their utensils and they also practice the “segregation” of their trash and make compost out of it. You must be asking where to use the compost that they have gathered? IMPRESSCA grows and cultivates their own vegetable garden and that’s where there compost goes. So in the end, there’s no waste at all.

Want to eat healthy? IMPRESSCA has already 5 branches. And these are : IMPRESSCA Mother Ignacia in front of ABS-CBN, SM san lazaro, SM Cubao in Cyberzone, UP-PGH Taft in Medical Arts Bldg. and soon to open at SM CITY North Edsa The Block .

SM HYPERMARKET BATANGAS: Partners with Batanguenos with a BULALO FEST!

Just as promised on my recent post about the Sisig fest I have witnessed in SM HYPERMARKET PAMPANGA, Today I will be sharing the fun and "yummlicious" BULALO FEST I have ever seen at my next SM HYPERMARKET-hopping.

The most varied BULALO FEST I have ever seen happened at SM HYPERMARKET BATANGAS. I  don't know but I have a feeling that this is gonna be different since Batangas is known for colorful and delicious festivities. So I am sure this will be a success.

On a Friday afternoon, I was worrying that it might rain. But SM HYPERMARKET BATANGAS is prepared for this big event. And even the participants too! Check my photos of !the festivities, it might made you think of cooking your BULALO recipe dish.

  • Siemens
  • Hot n' Cold
  • El Toro
  • Joel Arceo

  • Carlos' Place
  • Place of Mine
Batangas being known as province where the seemingly hot bowls of BULALOS are cooked and served. Upon my obesrvation during that exciting afternoon , it will be a tough one for the Judges.

Just a look on all these BULALO entries makes me wanna "OMG Pls. tell me , Am I dreamin?"

I have personally visited each participants as they prepared their winning  "BULALO" dish. And I must say If only I could declare them all winners, WHY NOT?

But only 2 participants must emerged winners for The BEST TASTING BULALO DISH and the MOST NUMBER OF BOWLS MADE , each winner from the 2 category will win Php25,000 worth of SM GC's and Gift packs from SM HYPERMARKET BATANGAS.

Wait that was so generous of SM HYPERMARKET because the participants only have to purchase Php500 worth of items at SM HYPERMARKET BATANGAS and they will get to win that big amount. Hey , why I wasn't informed about it earlier? But no worries dear foodie enthusiasts because I'm sure next year there will be bigger prizes up for grabs!

Have seen the photos of the event here? Do you already have a bet on who won? If your guess is as good as mine !

This is the BULALO entry from Lutong Bahay team and won The Most Number of
Bowls served.

Team LUTONG BAHAY

Bulalo Entry dish from Le Elegancia

Team Le Elegancia
Won The Best Tasting Bulalo Dish!

Again congratulations to all the winners! Now I am still full of Pinoy pride because the folks from Batangas prove to all of us that they are thw champions when it comes to BULALO!

KOALA'S MARCH : The A-B-C's Behind Every Kid's Delicious Snack

Do you know that these yummy Japanese snack were once the snacks, that my aunt who lived in Japan use to bring home to me when she's in the Philippines for vacation? Yes these are the snacks that I would like to share with my 2 kids too! I am positive that these yummy chocolate filled biscuits  will also bring smiles on their faces. So along with these yummy treat I also want to teach them the A-B-C's to every KOALA'S MARCH Character, just like our very own A-B-C's too!

K-O-A-L-A Stands For...

Learn about the cute and playful Koala with five interesting attributes that describe just what kind of creature it is!

Your browser may not support display of this image.
K-Kind
Though it may seem a bit odd to some, describing an animal, especially a Koala, with a human attribute such as kindness is totally justified.  Koalas are kind animals simply because they are herbivores. Big word, right? Being herbivores mean Koalas eat nothing but plants or leaves—Eucalyptus leaves to be precise. This means Koalas don't harm other animals or hurt them in any way for food. They are calm and harmless and their only weapon against aggressors is to growl. Though sometimes fierce in their own way when their safety is threatened, Koalas never hurt humans or fellow animals and pretty much keep to themselves (they prefer to live alone!) in their natural habitat.

O-Offbeat
The Koala is like no other animal in the animal kingdom. Though its slow movements are similar to the Sloth's, there is no other animal that resembles the Koala!  Koalas have pear-shaped bodies that help them maintain their balance while perching on tree limbs. Despite their plump bodies, they are excellent climbers so they can climb smooth tree trunks easily and quickly, and are also good swimmers who cross rivers to get away from floods and predators. What is even more offbeat about the Koala is that despite its climbing and swimming prowess, they move quite awkwardly on the ground.

A-Aromatic
To be aromatic means to have “a strong distinctive fragrance” and our little furry friends are extremely aromatic! No, they don't smell unpleasant. In fact, they have a very comforting smell which is the aroma of the Eucalyptus leaves they eat all day so they smell a bit on the “minty” side.

Your browser may not support display of this image.

L-Languid
A word that may not be common to one's vocabulary, “languid” is to be “lacking in vigor and vitality.” Koalas are so languid that some people think they're lazy because they sleep so much or because they seem to move in slow motion. They certainly don’t ever seem to be in a hurry. But, there is a very good reason for such behavior: Eucalyptus leaves are low in nutrients. Even though Koalas eat a lot of them, the leaves don’t provide them with much energy. So koalas conserve their energy by moving slowly and getting plenty of sleep. Lucky Koala!

A-Amazing
One attribute that makes this animal so amazing is its thick gray fur, which is so thick that it’s almost waterproof. Their fur changes to adapt to the different temperatures in their environment. Their woolly waterproof coats keep them warm in cold weather and dry when it rains or when seasons change and the weather warms up, they shed some of their fur to stay cool. It’s like the Koala has its own multi-purpose clothing collection, ready for any type of weather!

Given these characteristics of Koalas, it is no wonder that many people get hooked on another interesting Koala—Koala’s March biscuit snacks, that is.

Koala’s March, with all its flavor and goodness packed into small biscuit sizes, is best when shared with friends and family—and all those you love.

Tokyo Cafe: Not your Ordinary cafe'

Want a cozy ambience, delicious food but with a unique Japanese beverages that will surely leave your taste buds in a refreshing awe? Well look no further because that what absolutely TOKYO CAFÉ has to offer its hungry foodies.  Foodies of all ages will surely enjoy their experience once their taste buds set on the varied TOKYO CAFÉ Menu.

They also have that cozy ambiance that you may want ro browse the books on display!

I myself had a refreshingly different experience at TOKYO CAFÉ. For once I ate a “Guaranteed food and service “ satisfaction. How ?
 For one……

  • Tokyo Café is different from other Japanese-inspired rivals because they have a wide array of beverages and desserts .
  • The menu has itself differed because of their first class fusion of Japanese and Western cuisine.
  • At first look outside the Café it may look plain but once you entered the place , you will be greeted with a more laid-back environment for any age and at the same time enjoy the sumptuous food.
  •  Tokyo Café is not just a café .It is a café which can offer you more than your ordinary coffee and tea. It  can also offer from soups and salads as starters to your Japanese rice toppings in Ju-Box to quick-bite merienda of Burger served with fries as ¾ inch thick to dinner as well.

Oh I was so delighted with my visit there that I’m still tongue-tied about it. I cannot describe it with just one word but I guess my photos of their food and place will tell more what TOKYO CAFÉ once you guys visit them too!
Once seated, my two boys eagerly opened the menu and they were excited to point at all the food that they saw in it. As they turned the pages, they kept on saying I like these and that (as if they could eat everything. With a little bargaining with them (honestly, I can’t wait to try all of it too! So I kind of know the feeling, hihihi!) I ordered MIX FRY SALAD (Php211) for me, Chicken in a BASKET (5pcs-Php317) for my two boys, Yoshi’s Burger (Php 181) and a Coffee Jelly Smoogee (Php131).

MIXED FRY SALAD Php 211

I ordered this salad because I love eating greens. This one of food I look for when I browse the menus. So Luckily for TOKYO CAFE' being a Japanese Fusion Cafe' because I won't order anything with out this. I was amazed because their servings here are awfully big for an order. I thought this would just come on a small plate. But I was wrong . It was served in a bowl. And the Lettuce in particular were so fresh! An order of this can serve to people already. An order good for sharing! My son also ate the mixed seafood fry on top leaving me with the veggies to much. No worries for me because I vowed to come back!

Chicken in A Basket Php (Regular 5pc. 317)

The recipe for this chicken is so good, even my eldest kid had to eat all of it (with fries included)! I wonder what they do with it to taste this good! You can even share this with 2 of your companions. This is perfect
for me and my two boys since we always dine out together.

 Yoshi's Burger Php 181
Juicy Beef Burger Patty, cheese, onion, lettuce, toamto and meat sauce

I never got to take a shot of my actual order of these because my son wanted to eat it at once. I could say kids can actually determine what's a "good" eat from not. So be it!

These are the SMOOGEES, YOu cand find these on their DRINKS section and I opted to try the COFFEE JELLY blended in ESPRESSO (Php 131). This is so yummy! It was even filled with lots of jelly compared to other coffee jelly concoctions I have tried.

Almost all of their food in the menu is good for sharing so I don't mind if it's a bit pricey because it's worth the price. You can also add GARLIC BREAD (Php 30) or Steamed RICE (Php 38) on every food order.

Wait there's still one thing I like about TOKYO CAFE' is the variation. They have a lot of add-ons that you mix with food that you will order.

But since we are Rice-lovin' country, TOKYO CAFE' shares the love with their 2 newest offering : THE JAPANESE FAIR!

 THE JAPANESE FAIR includes:

  • UNA-JU (Php 393)
-Pan fried eel fillets topped w/ caramelized soy sauce over rice .
  • KATSU-JU (Php 240)
-Deep fried breaded pork cutlet flavored w/ signature tempura sauce, onions, leeks,
& scrambled egg on steamed rice.
  • TEN-JU (Php238)
-Deep-fried tempura w/ signature tempura sauce w/ steamed rice.
  • KALBI-JU (Php241)
-Thinly sliced beef smothered w/ original yakiniku sauce w/ fresh garden salad.

SM HYPERMARKET PAMPANGA: Oozing with Sisig Goodness!

Sisig has been in the Filipino food fare for quite sometime! And whenever there's sisig in the table I can't help but dig in. Sisig is so famous may it be as an "ulam" and or for "pica-pica".

So when the opportunity for me to visit SM HYPERMARKET MABALACAT PAMPANGA , I could not say no! Of course to be there and witness SM HYPERMARKET'S first ever SUPERSIZED COOK-OFF in an attempt to taste the best tasting recipe dish for their "SISIG".

The cook-off is one of the 3 part program-activity of SM HYPERMARKET MASTER CHEFS which began in July 2011. The two other events were a cooking marathon (which I consistently participated because I love learning new recipes) and the kitchen makeovers.

SM HYPERMARKET Mabalacat will be giving away Php25,000 worth of gc's each to the Best Tasting Sisig Recipe dish and to the group who could serve the most no. of plates served on this momentous occassion.

Sharing some of the photos I got :

These are some of participants who rendered there "impromptu" cheer! Kudos for their effort!

After the groups had rendered their respective group cheer, the participants started to prepare their "sisig" dish.

All in their high spirits as the contest and festivities has started. The participants are prepping their "SISIGS"

I was so overwhelmed with the number of sisig feasting before my very eyes! All in all there were 16 participating teams and I had a pretty hard time focusing on my camera because they all taste and look good !
