ADVOCACY: Let's Unite and Run for OneA Run for Road Safety

May 13 is an important date for runners, the family of the late professor-journalist Chit Simbulan, and those who advocate road safety.

Listening to the speakers that night made reminisce of my younger brother who also got into accident last year. He was riding his motorcycle along  Marcos Highway and he accidentally tapped into this man's car and the driver got angry angry and sideswipe him, not knowing his gonna bump in the car ahead of him. My brother along with his bike was thrown away. The driver did not even bother to take care of the damages. The accident made my brother stay in the hospital for 2 months. God is good he is still alive but had to put steel on his legs just so he can walk again.

I attended this run's presscon because I want to support its advocacy for ROAD SAFETY. We as responsible citizens should also be aware on how to use our roads properly. And how as drivers and road users should always be responsible while we are on the road.

The run's advocacy made realize that proper awareness should also be disseminated to road users like pedestrians and vehicle users.

Through my little space here in the blogosphere I want to share to my readers that I also support this advocacy and benefits and knowledge that they will gain from joining the run.

One person who will not miss the event is Alvin Carranza, the founder of MacGraphics Carranz and team manager of Pilipinas Teen Azkals.

Aside from owning OneA Events Place, the run’s starting point, road safety—he says— has been one of his advocacies.

He tells the bloggers on May 10 at the CafĂ© Lupe, “If we’re aware of what the government agencies, including U.N., has been doing, we’ll remember that each time we drive, we have to be more careful.”

The recent statistics released by the World Bank last month states, “Currently, 1.3 million people are killed on the world’s roads each year and 90 percent of these deaths occur in low- and middle-income countries, with an economic cost that can exceed total overseas aid flowing in.”

Carranza adds, “Sa Pilipinas, hindi pa kasama yung sa probinsiya, nasa top 5 tayo sa may pinakamaraming road injuries. Gaya ng sinabi ni Professor Roland Simbulan, the husband of Ms. Chit, ang road safety should be everyone’s concern.”

Present at the bloggers’ night are Chito Manuel of Philippine Football Federation, Atoy Sta. Cruz of Motorcyle Philippines Federation, and Prof. Roland Simbulan, the husband of Chit.

The run, which will be held this Sunday, at 5:00 a.m., also commemorates the declaration of U.N.’s Decade of Action for Road Safety last year.

Those who want to register, please contact Vicky 0917 9841063 or text these numbers 09224194879 and 09175599019.

There will be an onsite registration as well.

Several government agencies joined forces to organize this run: Department of Transportation and Communications (DOTC), Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA), Land Transportation Office (LTO); Land Transportation, Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB), Automobile Association of the Philippines, and Motorcycle Philippines Federation.

Calling all RUNNERS : RAT RACE : A RACE AGAINST HUMAN TRAFFICKING

I was invited last friday, March 11, 20 11 at MARIO's KITCHEN for the Coffee Talk of RAT RACE , A RUN AGAINST HUMAN TRAFFICKING.

This run is different from the other running events because this evnt has ven sharing . The event organizers agreed to donate 50% of the proceeds to the VISAYAN FORUM which is against Human TRAFFICKING. At the event we informed also the rampant problem of Human trafficking all over the world most especially we were among the countries all over the world with the most sources coming from us. A lot of women and children from the deprived provinces here in the Philippines are the most viable targets/victims.It is just sad fact that most of our women and childrem are already exposed to this. Thanks to ZONTA CLUB OF MAKATI-AYALA to have been advocating and helping and organizing these kind of runs to support the war against HUMAN TRAFFICKING.

FACTS about Human Trafficking (courtesy of The BODY SHOP )
Human trafficking is the third largest criminal industry in the world(1) and it is thought that 1.2 million children and young people are trafficked every year for sexual exploitation and cheap labour(2).

Philippine Trafficking facts

- In the Philippines, 60,000 to 100,000 children are trafficked annually (through both cross-border & internal trafficking), and most of these girls are to be sexually exploited.

- The Philippines also ranks fourth in the world in terms of countries with the highest number of prostituted children.

 - Reports show that sexual exploitation is the most likely purpose of trafficking

-Profits from this horrific trade reach US$ 27.8 billion per year.

-The recent economic crisis has increased children and young people's vulnerability to trafficking and the numbers are on increase.

What a sad fate for our fellow Filipinas and children, As a Mom of 2 boys though I dont have a daughter, I really feel for those women and child victims..and what great way to show your support is joning the above Run ; RAT RACE: RUN AGAINST TRAFFICKING . Most runs for your info does not really share half of it's profits to their chosen donors..but this with RAT RACE you are all assured that half of its profits will go to VISAYAN FORUM FOUNDATION.

Visayan Forum Foundation, Inc. (VF) is a Philippine-based NGO established in 1991 known for its innovative work for empowerment of vulnerable migrants especially victims of human trafficking, domestic servitude and other forms of exploitation through building social movements, advocating for policies and delivering of services.
VF is recognized for its pioneering efforts in advocating the recognition, development and full legal protection of domestic workers in the Philippines. It has helped organize the Samahan at Ugnayan ng mga Manggagawang Pantahanan sa Pilipinas (SUMAPI), a national organization of domestic workers. VFFI, along with SUMAPI and its local and international partners, has been lobbying for the passage of the Batas Kasambahay (Domestic Worker’s Bill) in order to uplift the situation of our local domestic workers by ensuring their well-being and protection.
